Kharkov 1942.

After the frantic battles for Moscow that were fought in the winter of 1941, in spring 1942 Stalin tried his hand in the offensive for the first time.

Besides the massive assaults by the Red Army, the partisan war behind enemy lines was also much better organised. Therefore, I have chosen the optimistic and powerful song "Amri Partiznok" ("I love the partisans"), a very Russian song, as the Allied Victory music.

For the Germans, "Erika" was very appropriate. "Erika" is another of those typical German marching songs. My father used to tell me that he hated them singing those songs during the war in occupied Holland, as the subject is a tender flower growing on the heath, not very much in line with the brutal and heavy handed occupation policy. When hearing this song, you can see the German 'landsers' marching through fields of grain or sunflowers in the fertile grounds of mother Russia!

The song for a draw should reflect the massive slauhter on the Eastern Front. "Swjaschtschennaja Woina" is such a song, somber and dark, full of melancholy of endless Russian steppes, covered with the dead and wounded of those terrible battles.
